Kalmar municipality

Kalmar is one of the oldest cities in Swede and was once the capitol of both Sweden, Norway and Denmark.

The development process from industrialism to post-industrialism has been very fast in Kalmar and the city and its inhabitants have proved an impressive abitlity to adjust and take advantage of the situation. An important factor has been the rapid growth of Kalmar University which has become an essential engine in the transformation process and changed the business structure, the street life and even the physical structure of the city. The previously traditional industrial sector with large units manufacturing trains and cars has to a very large extent been replaced by trade companies and labour-intense service-providers in IT, telecoms and marketing.

International cnetworks has during Kalmars thousand years benn of outmost iportance. Even more so today which is why the municipality of Kalmar by itself and through The Regional Council works intensely and focussed to continuously develop it's internationa networks both in the adjancent surrounding as well as overseas – on the far side of the world.
